Nilex’s retaining wall systems are aesthetically pleasing, economical, highly functional, and environment-friendly, all at the same time. Nilex offers five different types of retaining wall systems, Nilex Rock Face wall, Nilex Vegetated Slope, Nilex Bag System walls, MESA and Geocel walls. These retaining wall systems can be used for both residential and commercial projects.

Retaining Walls

Nilex’s retaining walls serve different spaces

As mentioned before, installation of retaining walls benefits both residential and commercial projects. The benefits are, however, different for both types of spaces. In a residential space, installation of retaining walls can reinforce slopes especially in a tiered garden, and provide privacy from the outside world, amongst other benefits. Whereas a commercial space is benefitted by retaining walls as they help steepen slopes. This facilitates vertical changes and creates more room on the horizontal plane, maximizing use of space for commercial activity.

The Nilex Bag Wall and Geocell retaining wall systems

The Nilex Bag Wall is a vegetated retaining wall system that is best suited for steep slopes. The retaining wall materials used in this system are soil bags with spikes combined with Uniaxial Geogrid to reinforce the soil behind the wall Face. This system gets stronger with time as it allows the local flora to grow on the system to lock it in. For this very reason, Nilex Bag Wall is effective in controlling erosion, protecting shorelines, restoring the banks of streams and other water bodies, and storm water management.

The MESA retaining wall system

Nilex’s MESA system is one of the most popular retaining walls. This is because it serves the pocket, environment, and the eye equally well. The system is one of the few that uses segmented concrete blocks to make retaining walls. These blocks absorb very little water/moisture, have high strength and are aesthetically pleasing, and are accompanied by Tensar HDPE geogrids that are resistant to corrosion and effective in soil reinforcement. The segmental blocks and the geogrids are then locked in using connectors which makes the walls more durable, increases the structural integrity of the wall system and makes construction easier. MESA systems can be used for both residential and commercial purposes. They are ideal for spaces where heavy footfall and load is expected, or where the seismic activity is high.

The Nilex Vegetated Slope retaining wall systems

The Nilex Vegetated Slope retaining wall system uses the natural vegetation of the terrain to reinforce the terrain. This system has four components — uniaxial and biaxial geogrids to stabilize the soil and ensure stability of slope, a facing system that has multiple options like natural vegetation, hydro seeding, bioengineering, plantable sod, etc, and finally, a step wall. Added facial stability can be achieved by using wire forms, products that prevent soil erosion, and geogrids in the facing system. As natural vegetation is used to fill in the facing system, the costs get drastically cut, even up to a whopping 60%.

The Nilex Rock Face retaining wall systems

The Nilex Rock Face retaining wall system is the only system that blends a wire-formed system with geogrids that provide reinforcement. The Nilex Rock system is composed of Galvanized Baskets with Connecting Struts, uniaxial and biaxial geogrids for soil reinforcement and geotextiles for separation. Nilex offers multiple options for installation services of the face of the wall including stone filled and architecture like sculptures. This system is best suited for spaces with high seismic activity or differential settlement.
